CANYON LOTTERY INFORMATION FOR NON-RESIDENT FAMILIES

The Complex Schools also provide for the education of non-neighborhood students who wish to attend based on the District’s Desegregation or Integration policy. This is done through a lottery process.

LAUSD has a new enrollment process for non-resident students* who wish to attend Affiliated Charter schools.  This includes siblings of currently enrolled students who were admitted through the lottery.  Non-resident applicants who wish to attend an affiliated charter school must complete the Unified Enrollment (UE) application.  Parent/Guardians may apply for more than one Affiliated Charter school online. This can be done by going to https://goto.lausd.net/

Unified Enrollment Timeline:

October 1, 2019 - window for on-time applications opens

November 15, 2019 - window for on-time applications closes

December 2019 - Families who applied with an on-time application will be notified of receipt through a confirmation letter

February 21, 2020 – Canyon will receive a list of applications from Unified enrollment and will conduct a public drawing (lottery) for non-resident students.

February 3, 2020 – Late application window opens and applicants will be placed on a waitlist.

March 2020 – On-time applicants will receive a letter in US Mail to inform them of their selection status.

May 2020-August 2020 – Schools contact on-time applicants on the waitlist when space becomes available.  Parents/guardians who accept a selection will begin the enrollment process with the school.

*If the number of students who wish to attend a Palisades Charter Complex School exceeds the school’s capacity or the capacity of students that can be accommodated at any grade level, then the admission of new students is determined by a public random drawing [Education Code 47605(d)(2)(B)]. The random drawing for determining admission priority shall take into account the admission and enrollment priorities outlined in Canyon's charter.

On April 23, 2019, the Los Angeles Unified Board of Education approved Phase II of the Unified Enrollment (UE) project to include Affiliated Charter Schools.  The UE project was Board approved on June 2017 to create a more convenient, equitable and accessible application process for families.  The updated District Required Language (DRL) modifies Element 8 of the current charter to align with the District’s UE process.  Non-resident attendance boundary families will now apply between October 1 and November 15, 2019 at GoTo.LAUSD.Net or submit a paper application found in the 2020-2021 Choices Brochure.  If there are more applicants than available space, the school will hold a public, random lottery during the month of February 2020.  Resident attendance boundary families will follow current enrollment procedures and do not need to apply through UE.
